I'm not sure if the core developers have published email addresses somewhere?

I'd like to ask a few questions, sort of, off line. An interactive chat could be good, too, but I don't know if folks meet in an irc room?

They have #fandev on freenode (IRC) though it's not always occupied, at least when i go in late PST, since it's night on the east coast.
